Secretary John King and other education professionals testified at a hearing on the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act. Members questioned witnesses on the rule-making process and a policy where federal funds are designed to supplement, not supplant, state resources.

The Radio and Television Correspondents' Association held its 72nd annual awards dinner at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. Governor John Kasich (R-OH), a former candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, delivered the keynote address. Hasan Minhaj, a comedian, actor, and senior correspondent on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” served as the guest entertainer for the dinner. This portion of the program began with a video memorializing journalists who had died during the year. Videos of award-winning work were shown as the David Bloom Award was presented to Ian Pannell; the Joan Barone Award to Jonathan Karl; the Jerry Thompson Award to Peter Doherty; and the Career Achievement Award to Dennis Dunleavy.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association union were among the witnesses at a hearing on air traffic controller staffing. The number of air traffic controllers were at a 30-year low. Witnesses answered questions about efforts to boost recruiting of seasoned air traffic controllers, as well about the potential effects of pending legislation aimed at making the hiring of new workers easier.

Governor John Kasich (R-OH), a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, announced that he was suspending his campaign. He thanked his family, staff, volunteers, and supporters and he reflected on his campaign, life, and faith. This announcement was made in the Wells Barn of the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Ohio’s capital.

One day before the Maryland primary, Republican presidential candidate Governor John Kasich (R-OH) spoke at a town hall meeting in Rockville. Former Representative Connie Morella (R-MD) introduced Governor Kasich.
