Senate Passes Foreign Aid Package 79-18
House Session - November 1, 2023

House members considered several bills under suspension of the rules in response to the Hamas attacks on Israel, including to sanction all financial supporters of Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or their affiliates as well as to condemn antisemitism on college campuses. They also worked on fiscal year 2024 government funding bills, including approving the legislative branch spending package. In addition, lawmakers also considered disciplinary against two members: to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for participating in a pro-Palestine demonstration, and to expel Representative George Santos (R-NY) for fabricating large parts of his background, including his education, work experience, and religion. The vote against Representative Tlaib was tabled by a vote of 222-186, with 23 Republicans voting in favor with all Democrats. Members also failed to expel Representative Santos, falling short of the 2/3 majority needed.
