The Senate debated Healthcare Reform, a proposal introduced by Senator George Mitchell, D-Maine and Senate Majority Leader. This proposal aims to cover 95% of all Americans by the year 2000. If this coverage goal is not met, employers may have to contribute to their employees coverage. Senator Byron Dorgan, D-North Dakota, was among the first to talk about the Crime Bill in this session. One of his points was the three strikes and you are out rule. The bill extends the death penalty to more than 50 additional federal crimes. Senator Joe Biden Jr. D-Delaware and Senator Edward Kennedy, D- Massachusetts spoke about the Crime Bill.
