Senate Session - January 31, 2006

Debate on the nomination of Samuel Alito as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court resumed with time evenly divided between both parties. Shortly after 11:00 a.m. the Senate voted to confirm Judge Alito by a vote of 58 to 42.

After the vote, the Senate began consideration of the nomination of Ben S. Bernanke to be chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
