Attorneys for both sides in the “Astroline Communications v. Shurberg Broadcasting” case spoke to reporters about the Supreme Court’s decision on the FCC’s “distressed sale” policy that gives preference to minority-owned broadcasting outlets. The Court ruled the FCC policy did not violate the Constitution. Harry Cole, an attorney representing Shurberg Broadcasting, talked about the Court’s distinction between race-based classifications set by Congress vs. those set at other levels. Thomas Cole, attorney for the winning party Astroline Communications, talked about the benefit of having diversity in the marketplace of ideas. close
