Republican leader Representatives J.C. Watts (R-Oklahoma), Dick Armey (R-Texas), and Tom DeLay (R-Texas) told reporters that they were pleased that President Bill Clinton signed the Defense Appropriations Act, but expressed disappointment with his pledge to veto other spending legislation. They expressed sympathy for Senator John Chafee (R-Rhode Island) who had died the previous night. After their comments, they answered questions from reporters. close
