Panelists talked about the Russian presidential elections, and its implications for U.S.-Russian relations. Acting President and former KGB officer Vladimir Putin won the election with 52 percent of the vote, but Communist Party candidate Gennady Zyuganov had a stronger showing than expected with nearly 30 percent. Among the topics addressed were the future of anti-corruption efforts in Russia, the war in Chechnya, and future opposition movements in Russia. After their comments they answered questions from the audience. close
