Judge N. Sanders Sauls heard arguments from the Bush and Gore campaigns as to whether to manually count ballots from several counties in which the presidential election was being contested. Kimball Brace and Nicolas Hengartner, expert witnesses for the Gore campaign, testified about voting machines and questions raised by a statistical analysis of the undervote in several counties. Judge Burton then testified about how the Palm Beach Canvassing board conducted their vote recount and Richard Grossman testified about the possibility of rubber degradation in voting machines.
