Lt. Gen. Thomas Kelly, Admiral Michael McConnell and Pete Williams spoke to reporters on the Persian Gulf war. Lt. Gen. Kelly said 54 SCUD’s had been fired at Saudi Arabia and Israel by the sixteenth day of the campaign. The air campaign against Iraq continued, with no Iraqi planes in the air during the previous 24 hours. He said that enemy troop movement in Kuwait had been detected and pursued, but no pattern to the movements had been determined. Mr. Williams said that downed aircraft would not be announced until after the search and rescue mission was completed, in order for the U.S. military to reach the downed aircraft before the enemy forces can locate the plane. close
