Jim McGrath talked about the book he compiled and edited, Heartbeat: George Bush in His Own Words, published by Scribner. Jim McGrath served as a speechwriter and editor for the forty-first President of the United States, starting in 1991. Later he served as his post-presidential spokesman and for the past seven years has been the former president’s speechwriter. Mr. McGrath talked about working for George Bush and the process of putting together this collection of excerpts of his speeches, letters, public papers and interviews. He also answered questions on the former president’s responses to the end of the Cold War, the Gulf War and his daily activities. close
