The National Governors' Association’s National Educational Goals task force met in Washington, DC to discuss the current progress of the six goals set by the National Governors' Association for the nation’s educational system. The task force is made up of governors, educational representatives, and administration officials concerned with improving the education of American youth. The goals include improvements in programs for preparing children for entering school, increasing the high school graduation rate, determining that students have suitable skills at particular grade levels throughout their education, maintaining math and science education at levels which compete with foreign countries, and eliminating drugs and violence from the public school system. The committee also discussed improving adult literacy rates and continuing education programs. close
