Several members of Congress spoke to reporters in the U.S. Capitol following the announcement by the Department of Defense of specific proposed military base closures to be made as part of the U.S. military’s reduction in manpower and spending. Rep. Aspin supported the Department of Defense’s list of bases for closure, saying the proposed closures were to take place in roughly even numbers of Republican and Democratic districts, as opposed to the 1990 list of bases to be closed which was highly partisan. He also said the bases proposed to be closed would not be the last, and that communities eventually recover from military base closures after a few years of “rough times.” close
