Witnesses testified regarding social, economic, and health issues facing African-American men. They also talked about how these issues affected the future of families, particularly in metropolitan areas. Among the issues of concern were unemployment, violence, education, HIV-AIDS, high incarceration rates, poverty, and the decline of family life. Prior to the beginning of the hearing, the committee conducted several minutes of committee business, agreeing by unanimous consent to endorse passage by the full House of a number of bills. close
