Nathaniel Philbrick, author of Sea of Glory, spoke to the Men’s Book Club in New York City. He talked about the U.S. government sponsored naval expedition which circumnavigated the globe between 1838 and 1842. Mr. Philbrick explained that the expedition proved to Congress that government spending on science and research was beneficial to the progress of the nation. close
