Already in progress, Commerce Secretary Don Evans addressed the National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing. Evans talked about a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges to U.S. manufacturing, saying that manufacturing must be stronger to help improve the U.S. economy. He also spoke about his announcement that $45 million in grants would be available from the economic development administration of the Commerce Department. Topics included globalization, outsourcing manufacturing jobs to other countries, the cost of email spam, and health care expenses. After his speech, Secretary Evans answered questions from the audience. close
