Spare Parts: A Marine Reservist's Journey

Mr. Williams talked about his book, Spare Parts: A Marine Reservist’s Journey from Campus to Combat in 38 Days, published by Gotham Books. The book was a memoir of the author’s experience as a Marine reservist during the first Gulf War. He shared personal stories from boot camp to the battlefield, and portrays fellow soldiers who impacted his life and perspective. Mr. Williams also described the difficulties encountered by reservists as they transition back and forth between a military environment and the civilian world and suggested ways in which training could better prepare new reservists for the realities of combat. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
