The American Society of Newspaper Editors held a forum during their annual meeting to discuss the power of cartoons in American society. Mr. Trudeau, creator of the newspaper comic strip Doonesbury, and Mr. Groening, cartoonist and creator of the popular animated television show The Simpsons, explained their work as artists and as reflectors of American culture. Ms. Overholser and Mr. Driscoll discussed the continuing interest Americans have in cartoons, the influences affecting the content of cartoons, and the effect cartoons have on American society. Mr. Trudeau and Mr. Groening took questions from the audience, mostly made up of newspaper editors, following the discussion. close
