Coinciding with the dedication of the National World War II Memorial, the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage held a four-day “Tribute to a Generation: National World War II Reunion” on the National Mall. In this session, three World War II veterans, Monte Irvin, Bob Feller, and Buck O’Neil spoke about the effects of their service on their Major League Baseball careers, and vice versa.
