Julia Preston and Samuel Dillon spoke about their book Opening Mexico: The Making of a Democracy, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. The book is about the 71 year reign of the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) in Mexico and its eventual downfall. During the event, the authors discussed the 2000 election in Mexico that unseated the PRI from power and Mexico’s refusal to support the U.S in the recent war in Iraq. Eduardo Ibarrola, deputy chief of mission at the Mexican embassy in Washington, DC, provided commentary. Jim Jones, former U.S. ambassador to Mexico, moderated the discussion. close
