Robert Stephan talked about his book, Stalin’s Secret War: Soviet Counterintelligence Against the Nazis, 1941-1945, published by University Press of Kansas. Mr. Stephan, who works for the CIA specializing in Russian intelligence issues, documented the history of Soviet intelligence during World War II as they fought Nazi Germany. The Soviets engaged in a campaign of military deception utilizing their 150,000 agents along a front of over 2,400 miles to neutralize their Nazi counterparts. The author also talked about how Stalin’s regime waged a similar type of deception against the Soviet population in order to prevent any uprising against Stalin.
