Mr. Newport, editor in chief of the Gallup Poll, talked about his book Polling Matters: Why Leaders Must Listen to the Wisdom of the People, published by Warner Books. He discussed how polling works as well as the effects that polls have on political elections. Mr. Newport argued that often there is a negative connotation associated with polls and that the media could do a better job of reporting poll results. He talked about the 2004 presidential campaign and how he feels polls could help both candidates. He also responded to audience questions. close
