Moises Naim talked about his book Illicit: How Smugglers, Traffickers and Copycats are Hijacking the Global Economy, published by Doubleday. In his book, the author wrote about the global trade in illegal goods and services such as human trafficking, counterfeiting and drug smuggling.. He argued that illicit trade is trade first and crime second, the economic power created from elicit trade is rapidly becoming political power, and the moral calculus in combating illicit trade is very complicated. He argued that the only way to reduce these activities is to stop financially supporting the suppliers by reducing demand. Following his remarks, Mr. Naim responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
