The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission held a regional hearing on the list of possible closures and realignments of defense bases. Elected officials and community representatives testified about the impact of closing or realigning military installations in North Carolina. The installations under consideration were Fort Bragg, Pope Air Force Base, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Army Research Office Durham, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, and Marine Corps Air Station New River. close
