The opening ceremony of the fifth annual National Book Festival was held in the East Room of the White House. First lady Laura Bush, some of the festival’s participating authors, and professional basketball players spoke at the ceremony. Mr. Davis and Ms. Taurasi spoke about Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and the Read to Achieve program. They presented Mrs. Bush with a basketball shoes and a jersey with her name on the back. close
