Stephen Walt talked about his book Taming American Power: The Global Response to U.S. Primacy, published by W. W. Norton. In his book he outlined the different ways countries around the world, friends and foes alike, were currently resisting American power. He argued that if the U.S. wants to achieve its national security goals and preserve its primacy in the world, it would have to change its foreign policy. This would include, he said, a repudiation of the 2002 National Security Strategy, which allows for pre-emptive attacks, and a greater reliance on public diplomacy. Following his presentation, Professor Walt responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Mr. Campbell introduced the author and moderated the question and answer segment. close
