Marion Elizabeth Rodgers talked about her biography Mencken: The American Iconoclast -- The Life and Times of the Bad Boy of Baltimore, published by Oxford University Press. The book is a compilation of archival interviews, love letters, and Federal Bureau of Investigation files, shedding light on the public and private life of journalist H.L Mencken. The author described him as a libertarian who believed in the importance of civil liberties and free speech, and used his role in the press to question fundamental elements of American government. Following her presentation, Ms. Rodgers responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
