Kevin McKiernan talked about his book The Kurds: A People in Search of Their Homeland, published by St. Martin’s Press. Kevin McKiernan discussed the plight of the Kurds who live in Northern Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria. As part of his talk, Mr. McKiernan looked at the atrocities committed against the Iraqi Kurds by Saddam Hussein during the 1980s (with the support of the U.S. government), the abandonment of the Iraqi Kurds after the 1991 Gulf War, and the leading role that the Kurds are playing in Iraq today. He also talked about the repression faced by Kurds living in Turkey and the clashes between the Kurds of Turkey and the Kurds of Iraq. The talk included a slide show and a question and answer session with the MIT audience. close
