Freelance journalist David Axe was recently embedded with U.S. forces in Iraq. He joined members of the U.S. Army’s 4th Infantry Division on patrol near the Shiite town of Balad, located about 50 miles north of Baghdad. The patrol was searching for IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and weapons caches. close
