Judge Buergenthal talked about the International Court of Justice’s advisory ruling on Israel’s security fence on the West Bank. Judge Buergenthal, the American judge on the International Court of Justice, was the lone dissenter in the Court’s advisory ruling in July 2004 stating that the fence was illegal under international law. He concluded that the court had ignored Israel’s right to self-defense.

Judge Beurenthal was a luncheon speaker at the Spring Forum of the ABA Section of International Law at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. During the luncheon, he was presented with ABA International’s Louis B. Sohn Award for public international law. close
