Incoming Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert outlined his government’s plan to Parliament, pledging to withdraw from parts of the West Bank and to negotiate with the Palestinians. This was the prime minister’s first major speech to the Parliament since his Kadima Party, formed by former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in November 2005, won the March elections. His coalition now controls 67 of the 120 parliamentary seats in the Knesset. His cabinet was sworn in the same day
