Mr. Wilson-Smith, Ottawa Bureau Chief for MacLean’s Magazine, discussed the expectations Canada held concerning the Economic Summit of the Industrialized Nations, being held in London July 15-17. He said Canada was concerned about the environment, GATT trade talks, South Africa, and aid to the Soviet Union as it approached the summit table. Mr. Wilson-Smith said Canada wished to take a softer line toward the Soviet Union to encourage further reforms, but said reform efforts were hampered by the Soviets' inability to decide on a single program for reform. close
