The House Democratic Caucus Katrina Task Force held a Town Hall Meeting in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to discuss the complications resulting from unpaid insurance claims and frustrations surrounding coverage following the disaster. A federal judge had ruled that damage from wind-driven water was not covered by standard homeowner’s policies. Participants talked about their experience during the storm, the chain of events leading to property damages in the region, and the responses from insurance agencies. They also talked about potential remedies and legislative action in response to the hurricane damage and reluctance by insurance companies to settle claims in favor of policy holders. close
