The House Africa, Global Human Rights and International Operations subcommittee held a hearing on the “Hague Convention on International Adoptions: Status and the Framework for Implementation.” Witnesses testified about implementing the convention, ensuring compliance with standards for adoption identified by the agreement, accreditation of adoption agencies, and anticipated international procedures under the convention. They also talked about ratification of the convention as a means to limit trafficking, smuggling, and kidnapping, as well as protections for the rights of birth parents and adoptive parents. close
