Michael Barone was interviewed about his life, his career, and his body of writing. Topics included his early years in Detroit, his philosophy and political views, and U.S. political history. He responded to viewer telephone calls and electronic mail.

His previous books include The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again; Our Country: The Shaping of America from Roosevelt to Reagan; and Hard America Soft America: Competition vs. Coddling and the Battle for the Nation’s Future. He is also the principal coauthor of the biannual Almanac of American Politics.
