Military experts reviewed the troop ‘surge’ in Iraq. Topics included assessment of the troop escalation, the overall situation in Iraq, troop safety, U.S. strategic interests, instability of the Iraq government, and adaptive flexible strategy in the mission. General Batiste testified, “Our Army and Marine Corps are at a breaking point with little to show for it.” Mr. Kagan was cautiously optimistic about the ‘surge.’
