Agustin Aguayo spoke to members of the press following his release from military prison and return to California in May 2007 after serving six months. He was sentenced to jail time after failing to deploy for a second tour of duty in Iraq. He had been convicted of being absent without leave (AWOL) and desertion following his refusal to deploy to Iraq for a second time with his Army unit. Upon return from his first tour he had filed for conscientious objector status, which was subsequently refused. Supporters also talked about his story and the efforts to have him released. close
