Joyce Carol Oates delivered the keynote address at the 3rd Annual Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Writers Conference of the Southwest in Grapevine, Texas. Ms. Oates talked about some of the processes she used to write nonfiction. She also read excerpts from her book “On Boxing” and her memoir, “The Lost Landscape,” which she was in the process of writing.

During a question and answer session, editor Nan Talese spoke via telephone about the publishing industry and a recent dispute between herself and Oprah Winfrey’s over publicity for James Frey’s A Million Little Pieces, which had been exposed as a fictional account rather than a memoir of addiction. close
