President Bush attended the ceremonial swearing-in of newly-confirmed Attorney General Michael Mukasey. After remarks by President Bush, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath of office. Members of the Mukasey family were present. The new attorney general also spoke briefly, pledging to protect the freedom and security of all U.S. citizens.
