President Bush urged Congress to pass an intelligence law making it easier for the government to eavesdrop on phone calls and electronic mail of suspected terrorists. The Protect America Act which temporarily re-authorized the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act had expired, and President Bush wants Congress to renew it and to provide legal immunity to telecommunications companies that cooperated with the government after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He also urged fully funding the Iraq war, adopting housing legislation, and approving a major increase in money to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. The president responded to questions from reporters including the energy supply, the economy, and funding for his presidential library. close
