A hearing was held on aviation delays and consumer issues. Department of Transportation Inspector General Scovel reported his findings on the massive airline delays in the summer of 2007 and the progress that’s been made to minimize onboard delays and improve customer service. Mr. Scovel found that multiple factors contributed to the gridlock and delays of last summer, including late arriving aircraft and weather. He recorded that airlines and the FAA set specific targets to reduce delayed or canceled flights, he also said that there was need for additional airspace and better analysis of the data the DOT already has. Other topics included soaring fuel prices, the poor customer service, and the need for new technology. close
