Witnesses testified at a hearing about the ability of hospitals and medical facilities to respond to large-scale disasters. Among the issues they addressed were emergency planning for natural disasters and terrorist attacks, current response plans, medical and personnel assets needed to meet demands of large surges in immediate care needs, and the current state of emergency care facilities. They also talked about the impact of current Medicaid regulations on the ability to provide emergency treatment. close
