Nicholas Daniloff talked about his book, Of Spies and Spokesmen: My Life as a Cold War Correspondent, published by the University of Missouri Press. Of Spies and Spokesmen recounted Mr. Daniloff’s career reporting from the Soviet Union during the Cold War and his imprisonment by the Soviets on claims of espionage in 1986 that was understood as retaliation for the FBI’s arrest of a Soviet agent.

In his remarks at the Woodrow Wilson Center, Mr. Daniloff talked about, among other topics, how he came to cover the Soviet Union, why he wrote the book, his life in Moscow, and how long it took to send a cable message between Russia and the U.S. in 1961. He also played an audiotape of a 1993 meeting between himself and former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev at Harvard in which he confronted Mr. Gorbachev about his imprisonment. Following his talk, Mr. Daniloff answered audience members' question.
