Six House Republicans held a press conference in the U.S. Capitol to criticize the re-exhumation of the “October Surprise” issue by a House panel. The panel intends to investigate charges that in 1980, the campaign staff of presidential candidate Ronald Reagan worked out a deal with Iran so the American hostages held in Iran would not be released until after the November elections. House Republicans claimed the issue was dead, and no evidence existed to justify a congressional investigation into the matter. close
