Members of the Senate debated the confirmation of the U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. The previous day charges that Judge Thomas sexually harassed a member of his staff when the head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission surfaced in the media, leading many members of the Senate to question the confirmation, in addition to their original reservations based on Judge Thomas' lack of openness during his confirmation hearings. The Senate agreed to delay the confirmation vote on Clarence Thomas to hold additional hearings on the charges of sexual harassment. close
