President George H.W. Bush discussed the “America 2000” plan to reform the American school system during a visit to Columbus, Ohio. He stressed the importance of the involvement of parents in order to improve the school system. Speaking before a large audience in a ceremony beginning Ohio’s school reform initiative, the president lauded Ohio’s initiative to improve its schools, and urged the country to concentrate on education reform with the America 2000 education initiatives. The president also recited the six goals for American education advanced by the National Education Goals Panel. Following his speech, the president invited four students to join him on the stage to mark the beginning of the Ohio 2000 education program. close
