Sen. Kennedy, chairman of the Labor and Human Resources committee, held a news conference in the U.S. Capitol with two other senators to respond to the president’s remarks on education from earlier in the day. Sen. Kennedy called for the president and the White House to get its act together, noting discrepancies between the content of the president’s speech and the content of the president’s legislative proposals. Sen. Pell advocated passage of the Senate Democratic education legislation, which he said would improve all schools for all American students. close
