Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton addressed the American Newspaper Publishers Association in New York on the topic of rebuilding the American community. He discussed his recent visits to Los Angeles, which was slowly rebuilding after riots broke out the previous week following the acquittal of four white policemen charged with beating a black suspect. Governor Clinton called for national policies that would rebuild the American community by addressing issues of race and poverty more directly than does the country’s current agenda. Following his prepared remarks, Gov. Clinton responded to questions from members of the audience. close
