Sen. Richard Lugar, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, held a news conference in the U.S. Capitol to advocate the U.S. move to join the United Nations and NATO to enforce a ceasefire in Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia is already under economic sanctions laid down by the United Nations Security Council to end the factional bloodshed in their country. Sen. Lugar criticized the use of economic sanctions alone to attempt to pressure the Serbian government in Yugoslavia, and advocated using the threat of military force to support a cease-fire. close
