The National Newspaper Publishers Association held a press conference to criticize Governor Bill Clinton for his failure to keep his commitment to speak at their convention. Earlier in the week, the Democratic presidential nominee cancelled his appearance, citing “scheduling conflicts.” Members of the group alleged that the real reason was an unwillingness to appear with independent presidential candidate Lenora Fulani. The press conference was abruptly ended when a representative of the Clinton campaign in the audience rose to explain the governor’s absence. close
