The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the importance of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which supports the work of law enforcement officers, prosecutors, courts, shelters, and other programs to stem domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. The Act was signed into law in 1994. It was reauthorized in 2000 and 2005. Supporters would like to see it extended to 2011. close
